Steenberg Golf Course
From the first day of play, the Steenberg Golf Course has received a deserved reputation for its magnificent greens. This remains a fact several years later as you play this course set under beautiful mountain surrounds and meandering through the vineyards of South Africa’s oldest wine farm.
The location of this real estate, hotel and golf course development, nestling under the Constantiaberg Mountains in the Constantia Valley, provides many glorious views of vines, pines, bush and mountain flora. This, added to the well-manicured fairways and greens of the golf course, explains why the estate has been described as a Green Haven.
Steenberg (which means ‘Mountain of Stone’) has proved to be one of South Africa’s most successful golf developments. This is no doubt due to the location, and to the attention to detail both on and off the golf course. All the properties surrounding the estate have been meticulously designed to blend in with the historical aspects of the working wine farm and indigenous plants and flowers have been introduced throughout the estate.
This detail has been incorporated in the continuous upgrading of the splendid clubhouse and the exceptional attention to detail given to the ‘customer journey’, which merits a special mention. Here you will find spacious lounges, a stylish members’ bar and a well-stocked and well run pro-shop. To complement the attention to the environment, Peter Matkovich was the golf course architect chosen to design the golf course.
His quoted slogan, that good golf course architects ‘listen to the land’, proved ideal. Here he has followed the gentle natural slopes of the estate and created a challenge by introducing large waste bunkers, running creeks, water hazards, and those excellent greens.View all Golf Courses in Western Cape Steenberg Golf Course Website
